DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN SPAIN
To move pets within or into Spain, it’s essential to comply with national and EU regulations.
We take care of all veterinary visits, paperwork and customs steps on your behalf, ensuring that everything is accurate and ready for border and health inspections.
To transport dogs or cats to Spain, you will need:
-
EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian.
-
Valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before travel.
-
Microchip identification compliant with ISO 11784/11785 standards.
-
Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs arriving from specific risk countries.
-
Veterinary clinical examination confirming the pet is healthy and fit to travel.
We organise all the veterinary appointments, manage documentation, and present them to Spanish authorities (Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación) to ensure full compliance.
⚠️Some autonomous communities (such as Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla) require additional veterinary certificates. For breeds classified as potentially dangerous, specific permits, insurance, and muzzles are mandatory.

Bird transport in Spain requires:
-
Veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours before travel.
-
CITES permits for protected or exotic species like parrots, cockatoos or macaws.
-
Prior notification to the Spanish veterinary authorities before arrival.
-
Possible quarantine or controlled isolation for birds arriving from non-EU countries.
Our team coordinates the full process, from paperwork to liaising with border veterinary offices and arranging quarantine if required.
⚠️ Entry of birds from outside the EU is highly restricted to prevent avian influenza. Quarantine and official veterinary health certificates may be required.

Requirements for small animals include:

-
Microchip and rabies vaccine for ferrets (mandatory).
-
Rodents and rabbits don’t need rabies vaccination but must be clinically healthy and disease-free.
-
Transport is limited to a maximum of 5 animals per non-commercial trip.
We ensure all documents are complete, validated, and approved by Spanish authorities, guaranteeing a legal, safe and stress-free trip for your pet.
⚠️ In the Canary Islands, rabbits and rodents must travel with a veterinary certificate due to strict biosecurity measures.
SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

MOST TRANSPORTED ANIMALS IN SPAIN
In Spain, the most commonly transported animals are dogs and cats, especially between major cities such as Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.
Birds, including canaries, parakeets, cockatiels and parrots, are also frequently transported, both for private owners and breeders.
Additionally, we regularly transport small mammals like rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters and other rodents, ensuring temperature-controlled conditions and personalised care during the trip.
Every animal travels with tailored planning based on their size, habits and temperament, to reduce stress and guarantee a smooth journey.
