DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN CHILE

Transporting pets in Chile requires compliance with national animal health regulations established by the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG).

DOG AND CATS

For dogs and cats, the following are mandatory:

Microchip identification (ISO standard).

Valid rabies vaccination certificate: Required for pets over 3 months of age. The vaccine must be administered at least 30 days before travel.

Veterinary health certificate: Must be issued by a licensed vet within 10 days of travel and endorsed by SAG for international departures.

Import permit (when entering Chile): Issued by SAG, required for all incoming pets.

⚠️Special rule in Chile: When travelling to Easter Island (Rapa Nui), pets must comply with additional biosecurity controls to protect the island’s unique ecosystem. These include stricter health checks and possible quarantine.

BIRDS

Bird transport in Chile is highly regulated:

SAG import permit required for all species.

CITES permits mandatory for endangered or exotic birds such as parrots, cockatoos, or macaws.
