DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN SLOVENIA

Slovenia follows EU regulations for pet travel.

At Animal Transport EU, we handle all required veterinary checks, documents, and customs processes to make the journey simple and compliant.

DOG AND CATS

Dogs and cats are the most common pets we transport in Slovenia. The requirements include:

  • Microchip identification (ISO 11784/11785 compliant).

  • Valid rabies vaccination, at least 21 days prior to travel.

  • EU Pet Passport or an official veterinary health certificate.

  • Veterinary examination to confirm the animal is fit to travel.

  • Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs when applicable.

We work directly with vets and authorities to ensure all documents are accepted without issues.

BIRDS

Bird transport to and within Slovenia requires:

  • Veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours of travel.

  • CITES permits for exotic or protected species such as parrots, cockatoos, or macaws.

  • Notification to veterinary border authorities when crossing international borders.

  • Quarantine procedures may apply for birds coming from non-EU countries.

We organise all paperwork and veterinary inspections for a smooth process.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

Transporting small animals in Slovenia is also subject to veterinary rules:

  • Veterinary health certificate (within 10 days of travel).

  • Rabies vaccination and microchip (mandatory for ferrets).

  • Rabbits and rodents do not need rabies vaccination but must be clinically healthy.

  • Non-commercial pet transport is limited to a maximum of five animals per owner.

Our team ensures full compliance, providing a safe, legal, and stress-free journey for your small pets.

MOST  TRANSPORTED ANIMALS IN SLOVENIA

In Slovenia, the most frequently transported animals are dogs and cats, particularly for families relocating between major cities such as Ljubljana and Maribor. We also provide professional transport for:

  • Birds – including parrots, cockatiels, budgies, canaries, and lovebirds.

  • Small mammals – such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, and other rodents.

Each journey is adapted to your pet’s species, breed, age, and temperament, ensuring maximum safety and comfort.
