PET TRAVEL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR PORTUGAL
To transport pets into or within Portugal, it’s essential to meet national and EU regulations.
We handle all veterinary visits, paperwork and customs steps on your behalf, ensuring that every document is correct and accepted by Portuguese authorities.
To transport dogs or cats to Portugal, you will need:
-
EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian.
-
Valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before travel.
-
Microchip identification compliant with ISO 11784/11785 standards.
-
Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs arriving from certain risk countries.
-
Veterinary health examination confirming that the pet is fit to travel.
We arrange all veterinary appointments, prepare the documentation and submit it to the Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV), ensuring full compliance with Portuguese regulations.
⚠️Portugal regulates dangerous breeds (Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Tosa Inu, among others). Insurance, muzzles, and additional paperwork are mandatory for these breeds.
