DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN NORWAY

Norway is part of the EEA but not the EU, so pet transport requires compliance with specific Norwegian regulations.

At Animal Transport EU, we take care of all the paperwork, customs, and veterinary steps to ensure a fully legal and smooth journey.

DOG AND CATS

For dogs and cats entering Norway, you need:

  • A valid EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate.

  • Microchip identification that complies with ISO standards.

  • Rabies vaccination, at least 21 days before travel.

  • Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs, mandatory 24–120 hours before arrival.

  • Veterinary certificate proving the pet is healthy and fit for travel.

We work directly with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) to guarantee compliance.

⚠️Tapeworm treatment mandatory for dogs. Certain dangerous breeds are banned (Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, Czechoslovakian Wolfdog).

BIRDS

For birds travelling to Norway:

  • A veterinary health certificate issued shortly before departure.

  • CITES permits for exotic or protected species (parrots, macaws, cockatoos, etc.).

  • Advance notification to Norwegian border authorities.

  • Possible quarantine for birds entering from outside the EU/EEA.

We manage all paperwork, permits, and border inspections for a smooth and compliant bird transport

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

For small animals such as ferrets, rabbits, and rodents:

  • Veterinary health certificate (issued within 10 days of travel).

  • Rabies vaccination and microchip (mandatory for ferrets).

  • Rabbits and rodents do not need rabies vaccination but must be certified as healthy.

  • Maximum of 5 animals per non-commercial journey is allowed.

We ensure all documentation is correct and accepted by Norwegian authorities, providing legal, safe, and stress-free travel for your small pets.

⚠️Rabbits are not allowed from most countries due to disease risk.
