PET TRAVEL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR GERMANY

When transporting pets to or within Germany, it’s essential to comply with both German federal regulations and EU animal health laws.

We handle all the veterinary appointments, documentation and customs steps on your behalf to guarantee a smooth process.

To transport dogs or cats to Germany, you will need:

  • EU Pet Passport or, for pets from non-EU countries, an Animal Health Certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian.

  • Valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before entry.

  • Microchip identification compliant with ISO 11784/11785 standards.

  • Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs if coming from high-risk countries.

  • Veterinary clinical examination certifying the pet is healthy and fit to travel.

We take care of scheduling all veterinary visits, preparing the documents, and submitting them to German veterinary and customs authorities to ensure seamless border checks.

⚠️Germany prohibits the import of certain dog breeds (Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Bull Terrier), unless exceptional exemptions apply.

DOG AND CATS

BIRDS

Bird transport within and into Germany requires:

  • Veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours before travel confirming the bird is free of contagious diseases.

  • CITES permits for protected or endangered species (such as parrots, cockatoos or macaws).

  • Prior notification to German veterinary authorities (Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft) before arrival.

We handle the entire process, including permits, liaising with border veterinary offices, and arranging quarantine if needed.

⚠️ Very strict regulations apply to birds from outside the EU, with possible quarantine and detailed health certificates required.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

Requirements for small animals include:

  • Veterinary certificate of good health issued within 10 days before travel.

  • Microchip and rabies vaccine for ferrets (mandatory).

  • Rodents and rabbits do not require rabies vaccination, but must be clinically healthy and disease-free.

  • Transport is limited to a maximum of 5 animals per non-commercial journey.

We make sure all documentation is accurate, approved, and presented to German authorities, so your pet’s journey is safe, legal and worry-free.

MOST TRANSPORTED ANIMALS IN GERMANY

In Germany, the most commonly transported pets are dogs and cats, especially for families and professionals moving between major cities like Berlín, Múnich and Hamburgo.

Birds such as parrots, canaries, cockatiels and exotic species are also frequently moved, both for private owners and professional breeders.

We also regularly handle small mammals like rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters and other rodents, offering tailored care and temperature-controlled environments to reduce stress during transport.

Our team is trained to handle animals of all temperaments, from calm and social to shy or nervous, guaranteeing a smooth, safe and stress-free experience.
