DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN ECUADOR

The documentation required depends on the species, but all pets must meet strict veterinary requirements.
DOG AND CATS

Dogs and cats are the most common pets transported to Ecuador. Requirements include:

Microchip identification (ISO standard – strongly recommended).

Valid rabies vaccination certificate: Required for pets over 3 months of age, given at least 21 days before travel.

Health certificate issued by an accredited veterinarian in the country of origin, within 10 days before travel.

Import permit from Agrocalidad: Required for all pets entering Ecuador.

Deworming and anti-parasite treatment: Must be recorded in the veterinary certificate.
⚠️ Special rule: Certain airlines operating to Ecuador (especially to coastal destinations) impose restrictions on snub-nosed breeds due to the tropical climate.
BIRDS

Importing birds into Ecuador is tightly controlled to protect biodiversity. Requirements include:

CITES permits for exotic or endangered species such as macaws, parrots, and cockatoos.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)


Transporting small mammals to Ecuador is possible but regulated. Requirements include:

Rabies vaccination certificate required for ferrets. Rabbits and rodents typically do not require rabies vaccination but must be declared healthy.
