DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN LATVIA
Transporting pets into or within Latvia requires compliance with EU regulations and Latvian veterinary standards.
At Animal Transport EU, we take care of all veterinary paperwork, customs clearance, and checks to ensure a smooth and legal journey
DOG AND CATS

For dogs and cats travelling to Latvia, you need:

An EU Pet Passport or an Animal Health Certificate.

Microchip identification according to ISO 11784/11785.

Valid rabies vaccination, given at least 21 days before travel.

Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs, required if travelling from certain risk countries.

Veterinary confirmation of good health prior to transport.

We coordinate all requirements directly with the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia (PVD) to guarantee compliance.
BIRDS

For bird transport, Latvia requires:

A veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours of travel.

CITES permits for exotic or protected species (parrots, cockatoos, macaws, etc.).

Notification to Latvian veterinary border authorities.

Possible quarantine measures for non-EU origins.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)


For small animals such as ferrets, rabbits, and rodents:

A health certificate from a licensed veterinarian (issued within 10 days).

Rabies vaccination and microchip (mandatory for ferrets).

Rabbits and rodents are exempt from rabies vaccination but must be clinically healthy.

Non-commercial transport is limited to 5 animals per trip.
