DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN TURKEY
Turkey has clear regulations for importing pets, and compliance is strictly enforced. Below are the key requirements:
DOG AND CATS

Dogs and cats are the most commonly transported pets. For entry into Turkey, you need:
-
Microchip identification: ISO 11784/11785 compliant.
-
Valid rabies vaccination certificate: Must be administered at least 30 days before travel and not older than 12 months.
-
Titer test (rabies antibody test): Required for pets coming from countries not considered rabies-free. This must be done at least 3 months before travel.
-
Veterinary health certificate: Issued within 10 days before travel, confirming the pet is healthy.
-
Import permit: Not required for non-commercial transport of up to 2 pets, but mandatory for larger numbers or commercial purposes.
⚠️Special rule: Turkey imposes restrictions on certain dog breeds considered “dangerous” (e.g., Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro). These breeds are not permitted entry.
BIRDS

Transporting birds to Turkey is possible but regulated:
-
Veterinary health certificate issued within 72 hours of travel.
-
Import permit from the Turkish authorities.
-
CITES documentation required for exotic or endangered bird species.
-
Birds may be subject to veterinary inspection and quarantine depending on their country of origin.
⚠️Important: Due to avian influenza risks, bird imports from certain countries may be temporarily suspended.
SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

Small pets are allowed entry into Turkey, but with specific rules:
-
Veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days before travel.
-
Rabies vaccination certificate required for ferrets.
-
Rabbits and rodents do not require rabies vaccination but must be declared and proven healthy.
-
Import permit may be required depending on species.
⚠️Special note: Some exotic mammals may be restricted under Turkish wildlife protection laws — always check in advance.
