DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT PETS IN CROATIA

Croatia applies EU regulations for the transport of animals.

At Animal Transport EU, we take care of all veterinary visits, paperwork, and customs procedures, ensuring full compliance and a stress-free experience for owners and pets alike.

DOG AND CATS

Dogs and cats are the most commonly transported animals in Croatia, and they require:

  • Microchip identification compliant with ISO standards.

  • Valid rabies vaccination, administered at least 21 days before entry.

  • EU Pet Passport or an official veterinary health certificate.

  • Veterinary clinical check confirming the animal is fit for travel.

  • Tapeworm treatment for dogs if required by the destination country.

We manage all documentation directly with Croatian veterinary authorities to guarantee a smooth process.

⚠️Rabies vaccination required. Dangerous breeds (Pit Bulls without pedigree) are prohibited.

BIRDS

Birds require additional permits and checks for legal travel. Conditions include:

  • Veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours before departure.

  • CITES permits for exotic or protected birds like parrots, cockatoos, and macaws.

  • Advance notification to Croatian veterinary border authorities.

  • Quarantine arrangements may be necessary for birds coming from non-EU countries.

We coordinate permits, inspections, and veterinary supervision for safe and compliant bird transport.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

Small animals also require documentation and proper travel conditions. Requirements are usually:

  • Veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel.

  • Rabies vaccination and microchip (mandatory for ferrets).

  • Rabbits and rodents must be healthy and clinically examined, but no rabies vaccination is required.

  • A limit of five non-commercial animals per journey.

We provide the right carriers, personalised handling, and guarantee compliance with Croatian and EU rules so your small pets travel safely.

MOST  TRANSPORTED ANIMALS IN CROATIA

In Croatia, the most frequently transported pets are dogs and cats, often moving with families relocating within Europe.

We also transport birds such as parrots, cockatiels, budgies, and canaries, along with small mammals including rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, and other rodents.

Every transport is tailored to the species, size, health condition, and temperament of the animal, ensuring a journey adapted to their needs.
