PET TRAVEL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO FRANCE

To move pets within or into France, it is essential to follow national and EU regulations.

We take care of all veterinary visits, paperwork and customs steps on your behalf, ensuring that everything is correct and accepted by French border and health authorities.

DOG AND CATS

For birds, France requires:

  • Veterinary health certificate issued within 48 hours before departure.

  • CITES permits for protected or exotic species like parrots, cockatoos or macaws.

  • Prior notification to French veterinary authorities before entry.

  • Possible quarantine or isolation for birds arriving from non-EU countries.

We manage the complete process, from documentation to coordination with border veterinary services and quarantine arrangements if needed.

⚠️France applies very strict rules on dangerous dog breeds. Category 1 dogs (such as Pit Bulls without pedigree, Mastiffs, Tosas) are prohibited. Category 2 dogs (e.g., American Staffordshire Terrier with pedigree, Rottweiler) are heavily regulated.

BIRDS

To transport dogs or cats to France, you will need:

  • EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian.

  • Valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before travel.

  • Microchip identification compliant with ISO 11784/11785 standards.

  • Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment for dogs coming from specific risk countries.

  • Veterinary health check certifying the animal is fit to travel.

We arrange all veterinary appointments, prepare and submit the documents to the Ministère de l'Agriculture et de la Souveraineté alimentaire, ensuring full compliance with French regulations.

⚠️ Importing birds from non-EU countries is limited to 5 per traveler and requires quarantine plus official veterinary documentation.

For small animals, you will need:

  • Veterinary certificate of good health issued within 10 days before travel.

  • Microchip and rabies vaccination for ferrets (mandatory).

  • Rodents and rabbits do not need rabies vaccination but must be healthy and disease-free.

  • Transport is limited to 5 animals per non-commercial journey.

We make sure all paperwork is complete, validated and approved by French authorities, guaranteeing a safe and fully legal trip for your pet.

SMALL MAMMALS (RODENTS, RABBITS, FERRETS)

MOST TRANSPORTED ANIMALS IN FRANCE

In France, the most commonly transported pets are dogs and cats, especially between major cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse.

We also frequently transport birds like canaries, cockatiels, parrots and lovebirds, as well as small mammals including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other rodents.

Each pet travels according to a personalised plan based on their species, size, habits and temperament to ensure maximum comfort and minimal stress during the journey.
